Welcome to The Joy House and thanks for visiting our website at www.thejoyhouse.com to find out more about us.
We are a ministry whose vision is “Restoring Teens and Families Through Christ”. It has been a great adventure with God since our inception in December of 2000. What a blessing it has been over these past several years to see Christ’s hope and healing brought to the teens and families we have been privileged to work with. As of July 2006 we have graduated 15 teens and families from our program and have been privileged to work with more than 35 teens and families.
This ministry was birthed out of mine and my wife Wendy’s, along with the Bells (our first house parents) experience with youth ministry in a local church here in Pickens County. The Lord brought many hurting teens into our lives. Many faced tough circumstances at home and carried wounds from the brokenness in their own families. I came to understand that Bible Studies and fellowship were not enough for some of these kids, they needed life intervention. I also came in contact with some of their parents who were broken hearted over the waywardness of their teen. The Lord began stirring in our spirits the need to do something more. We were then blessed to find out about other great programs like Eagle Ranch and House of Hope who had been successfully helping teens and their families for years. This gave us great hope and encouragement that something could be done.
We then began praying for the Lord to confirm He wanted us to pursue this vision by bringing along side of us some other key people in the community who shared a similar passion. He faithfully did this and they became the nucleus of our first board. We met for the first time in December of 2000 with no money, no staff, and no facility, only a clear directive from the Lord to pursue this great venture. The Lord then faithfully began bringing all the pieces together.
In 2005 we purchased 28 acres of land here in Pickens County for our future campus. In the first half of 2006 we hired our second set of house parents and moved them into a renovated home on the new property to work with our young men. Our ultimate goal is to develop our staff and campus so that we can minister to as many as 40 to 50 teens and families.
What a JOY it has been to be a part of seeing teens and families reconciled, to see them succeed in school where they use to fail, to see them discover that they can do more than they ever imagined, and for them to understand there is a Heavenly Father who loves them intimately and desires a relationship to them.
Whether you’re here as a family in need of help, or a current or potential friend of the ministry thanks for taking the time to discover more about us. I invite you to join us in this great adventure with God to see Christ’s hope and healing brought to teens and families here in our North Georgia community.
