Bill Cook explaining the piece he’s creating for our community throughout the Marble Festival. Stop by his booth during the 32nd Georgia Marble Festival to see him in action. He is working with a piece of Pickens County mined Georgia Marble courtesy of Sherry Reynolds and me!
My mother, Sherry Reynolds, had the marble pieces. When I told her that I wanted more marble in the Marble Festival, she offered to donate them. Bill Cook Jr has been participating in the Festival for a while and has, in recent years, been the only artist displaying marble in the Art Show or as a booth. His website can be found here: http://www.billcookjr.com/
Jasper City Major Weaver came to pick up the marble slabs, each of which weighted around 470 lbs each. We donated 2 slabs – one for Mr. Cook to create a sculpture to be left here with our community and the other for him to take back home for his own use. That was our way of showing appreciation for his time and efforts. He is staying at the Woodbridge Inn courtesy of Hans Rueffert and Amelia & Arthur McIntyre.
He has designed a sculpture based on the parade theme of Medieval Marble. It is going to be a knight in armor kneeling before a princess. He will work on it through Sunday. His booth will be located near the marble sample pile. Stop by and say hello and see what a work of art Bill will be sculpting for our community.
