Per Jennifer Jones Chambers via facebook – I hope everyone has a safe Labor Day weekend! Before you get started with the relaxing, make a point to go to your local Blood Assurance and donate blood. As of today (August 31) there is absolutely no units of O negative, which is the universal kind used when a patient’s blood type is unknown! One car wreck can require 1 patient to need up to 50 pints! Log on to www.bloodassurance.org to find a location near you to donate. You could be saving lives!
Today my husband, Ken and I went to the County Line Baptist Church Benefit Car Show that was held at Vernie Jones Ford on Hwy 515 in Jasper. It had started to rain at our house in Bent Tree but we hoped for better weather in Jasper at the car show. When we got there, the place was pretty packed with the antique cars & trucks and their owners. People were already milling around, and checking out these beautifully, restored vehicles. The benefit was for the youth Sunday School activities, Missionary Work and other things at the church; it was nice to see the young people involved.
I saw Ms Vicki Massey right away and got a couple of pictures of her and the other ladies helping with the registration of the cars & trucks for the show. Activities included door prices, a 50/50 drawing, entertainment and concessions. The light rain kept a lot of people away but all and all, there were about 40+ antique cars & trucks in the show. We didn’t stay around until the end but I do plan to get who the winners were and post them here later.
Trophies are to be presented for: Best of Show, Preacher’s Choice, Participant’s Choice, and Top 25 Cars and Trucks.
By Filtering Your Water At Home
I’m big on using tap water for drinking for our family and I like it to be clean & healthy, so we use a Pur Water Filter…it started way back when as I read an article about bottled water and tap water and what we know and don’t know about our water that we’re drinking-and the potential of Cancer!
Home water filtration is no longer just about taste. People increasingly rely on it for healthy home benefits.
In fact, home water filtering devices should be used to decrease exposure to potential health hazards according to the President’s Cancer Panel (PCP). This panel reports to the president of the United States and is charged with developing and executing strategies to reduce the “unacceptable burden of cancer” on Americans.
Specifically, the report states: “Individuals and families have many opportunities to reduce or eliminate chemical exposures. For example, filtering home tap or well water can decrease exposure to numerous known or suspected carcinogens and endocrine-disrupting chemicals.” Further, the panel asserts, “unless the home water source is known to be contaminated, it is preferable to use filtered tap water instead of commercially bottled water.”

On July 30, the Bent Tree Foundation wrote to the Bent Tree residents asking for their financial support for C.A.R.E.S. on behalf of children in Pickens County returning to school. We described that C.A.R.E.S., a charity that helps local residents obtain and maintain basic needs for their families, was working hard to give every child in their program a gift card to take shopping before school started on August 3.
We are delighted to report that Bent Tree residents responded generously and provided C.A.R.E.S. with nearly 30% of the total funding they sought for this extremely worthwhile cause. As promised, 100% of every designated donation to the Bent Tree Foundation was transferred directly to C.A.R.E.S.
On behalf of the entire Bent Tree Foundation Board of Directors, thank you for your support. We encourage you to contact us with any questions or if you wish to offer suggestions regarding future Foundation projects.
