OK, I don’t want to bore everyone with my quilt stories, but I have to tell this one as it really touched my heart.
The first year I started selling my quilts, I was at the Christmas In Cumming show. And believe me, I was new to it all. I had theses two ladies come in my booth. A mother and daughter. They looked at many of my quilts. But there was this one quilt that the mother just stopped and starred.
Well they left and did not buy the quilt. But a little later, the daughter came back and bought it for her mother for Christmas. The quilt was red and white with red birds.
So last year, they both passed though again and we talked a bit. They were two of the sweetest people you’d ever want to meet.
Well last night, we were kind of busy and as I turned around, there stood my new friend without her mother. And my first question was, where is mom? And I’m sad to say, she had lost her mom in November. And she told me that while her mom was sick, my blanket was the one thing she wanted with her. And she had even placed the blanket in the casket with her mother. But at the very end, she could not let it and the memories go, so she had to keep it with her.
She says it’s now her favorite throw.
Not too long after she left, another lady came in and without knowing this story, told me of her dad’s story and how in the end, she and her dad had connected through red birds. Her dad suddenly got sick and passed away pretty quickly. Before he died, she told him when he got to heaven to send butterflies and red birds to let her know he was around…
And now the kicker, I had one more red birds quilt, just like my new friend’s Mom had, and she bought it for her mom! So she could see the red birds all the time.
I know if you read this, it probably bored you to death, But it touched my heart.
