I’ve posted about recycling before but wanted to post again as recycling is so very important for our environment. It is a pain, I know this as I bound up 6 bags of recycling this morning. But when you recycle, you’re keeping trash off the sides of the road, the landfills don’t fill up as quickly and you’re helping to have a better place for your grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on.
Some Of The Reason People Don’t Recycle:
If you don’t have a place to take your recycling, it is very inconvenient. You might be good at keeping your glass together, your cardboard, plastic etc but when it comes time to get your recycling out of the house, where do you take it? Do you have someone to pick it up? Do you have somewhere to take it? You have to be very committed to recycling to deal with this part of the process.

Some people don’t recycle as they may have a lack of space to keep containers for plastic, glass, cardboard. They may not have a garage and nowhere inside the house to keep up with recycling. But is this a good enough reason not to recycle?
Some think, I would recycle if they paid me for it. But some counties in some states will fine people for Not Recycling. When we were living in Sarasota County FL, it was mandatory to recycle, which was good for the county as we never saw much trash on the roads, but we were fortunate that there was an area where we could take our recyclables. Some areas have no penalties or incentives for recycling. But is this a good reason not to recycle?
Some people think that it doesn’t make a difference if they recycle or not. But just consider Pickens County, a population of over 30,000 people. And what if no one recycled, think of all that garbage and recycling being tossed into the landfill? Some things are just meant for the landfill, trees, stumps, concrete, brick, garbage but not recycling. We should do our part to keep the recycling out of the landfills and put in the recycling centers so they can be used over again.

It’s just too hard to do and keep up with. So yes, there are a few items to recycle, glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, but is that a reason not to recycle?
Positive Reasons That People Do Recycle:
Recycling for sure saves energy. When manufacturers use recycled materials, they don’t have to produce something from new or raw natural resources. This saves on energy consumption which helps to keep their production costs down.
Recycling reduces landfills. By recycling, it reduces what goes into the landfills, they don’t fill up as fast and this delays the need for more landfills. You wouldn’t want to wake up one day and realize you now live next door to a landfill, would you?
By recycling, we reduce the need to destroy habitats for animals. Just recycling paper alone can save millions of trees.
Recycling is good for the economy. When we recycle, we end up purchasing recycled products which in turn, creates more demand for recycled goods. When goods are produced using recycled materials, less water and energy is used and there is less pollution.
Recycling does help our climate problems by using less carbon, which in turn, reduces the amount of unhealthy greenhouse gas emissions.
I like to recycle as it makes me feel good knowing I’m not adding to the landfills with items that can be reused. We have always recycled and taught our kids to recycle. When my son first moved back to Georgia from Florida, he stayed with us until he found his apartment. We always rinse out bottles and cans and turn them upside down to drain in a dish drainer in the sink. When I went to his house, after he’d been moved in a month or so, there in his sink was a dish drainer with a bottle turned upside down. He was taught well and he learned well…
