We currently have close to 2,000 eggs donated to the JMA for this event. We still need close to 2,000 more for this to be a great event. Merchants/Businesses are encouraged to step up and provide eggs for this event. Deadline for the drop off of Easter Eggs is Friday, before 4PM at Coco’s Cottage on N. Main Street. Relay For Life teams will be placing the eggs in 3 Age appropriate search zones. First zone is for kids up to the age of 3. Second zone is for kids aged 4 to 7. Third zone will be for kids aged 7 to 12. Anyone older than that will be welcomed, but we asked for teenagers to let the children that still believe in the Easter Bunny to participate for the hidden eggs. After the Easter Egg hunt event, Relay For Life will have bounce houses for Kids to play in and will be signing up teams of 2 for a Corn Hole Tournament to benefit RFL of Pickens County. Other activities and live music will be provided for entertainment.
On Main Street Car Cruise-In – The first event will be this coming Sunday, April 22, 2014 from 2pm to 6pm. There will be no Live Bands at this event. Evelyn Williams will be cooking and selling Hot-Dogs along with Pound Cake in front of Moore Furniture. Other Merchants/Vendors that are wishing to sell at the Car Show event are to contact Nancy Watkins at Coco’s Cottage for more information. The next On Main Street Car Cruise-In and all following 2014 Car events will be held on the 4th Saturday of each month. The Saturday, May 24th event will have the band ‘Stone Cold Country’ will be performing. Ava Rogers has asked to held the Entertainment Committee for all upcoming JMA Sponsored events and are willing to help any Merchant/Businesses with setting up and planning events. Looking at switching to have a movie night showing on a month when no band is scheduled to play. The JMA is still open to hosting a Bike Cruise-In on Main Street and Domin8 has volunteered to pay for trophies for any group wishing to organize a Bike Show.
Storage Building – Ava Rogers has a storage building that she is donating the space to store the Christmas Decorations that were given to the JMA by Pickens County. The storage building needs to have the shingle roof on the back end finished being repaired before it can be moved off the property located on Refuge Road and brought to the WYYZ property on Hood Road. With someone volunteering help to repair the roof we are hoping that it shouldn’t be more than approximately 2 weeks. Once the building has been moved to WYYZ we can have the Christmas decorations moved from the county property and put into the new storage location.
Google Calendar Reminders – Paul Poore will change the settings for the JMA Google Calendar Events Reminders that members receive for upcoming scheduled events to be just 24 hour notice before the scheduled start time. A notification will be sent out for you to accept/decline the event when it is first created and then no other notice will be sent to members until 24 hours before that event is to start. All JMA emails will contain a Subject Heading as to what the email contains.
Post Card Photo Contest – Royce Haley presented the idea of doing a Post Card Photo Contest where anyone can submit pictures of Pickens County landmarks, buildings, scenery and then submit them. Those photos will be put on display possibly at Sharptop Arts Association. Photo submissions will be listed by number so when voted on by the public, no one photo will have favoritism due to the author of the photo. After the voting for the Top 5 Pictures to represent Pickens County will the contributing author then be revealed. If enough Merchants wishing to sell the Post Cards participate, we can get them for a cost of .25 for Card and they can be retailed between .95 to $1.00. For more information or wishing to help with this event, contact Royce Haley at Burnt Mountain Trading Company.
Jasper Visitors Center – Merchants are still encouraged to bring items and information to the new Jasper Visitor Center. David Croft Canned Goods (usually sits at Tate 4-way) currently is the 2nd member to have items in the Jasper Visitors Center that are for sale and has had several jars of canned goods sold since placing items there. Two 4’x4’ maps, one of Pickens County and one of North Georgia are being sought to be placed on the area location boards for those coming to town and wanting to find places and how to find other towns.
Redneck Games – First of all, WHY NOT? With the success of the Blue Collar Tour, Duck Dynasty, and Honey BooBoo, one can’t say this is insulting? Those people are making millions, so someone likes it! Pickens County and Jasper would LOVE IT! With an event like this, I would just about guarantee media coverage just because of the nature of the event. Plus, with the right execution and planning, there is no reason this will be a money maker on top of bringing new-comers to our neck of the woods. We can bring several types of venues together such as a cooking contest (BBQ Cook Off), The Games, music and maybe a folk art show? The possibilities are endless. Could even find out when the antique tractor show is in Jasper and perhaps join forces?? Does the money just go to the JMA or do we select a charity for it to go towards? If we become a non-profit or join forces with a non-profit, then it will be easier to get corporate sponsors for tax write-off purposes. Possible charities for this event could be Pickens County Habitat for Humanity or Pickens Animal Control? When and Where? We are going to look at Pig Pen
Mud Park to be the hosting location for this event. As to when, it would be awesome to get this put together for the end of 2014 Summer, but it might be more like Summer of 2015. Do we charge admission, or just make it off vendors. If we charge a minimal admission, then we can lower cost for vendors making it more profitable for everyone. Redneck Games events possibilities but not limited to: Hog Hollerin’, Greased Pig Contest, Lawn mower racing, Cow patty BINGO, Eating contest – Watermelon, hotdogs, pies, Folk Art Festival, Greased Pole climbing to claim a $100 bill, Cook-off, Music, Beer Belly Flop, Armpit Farting, Bobbing for Pig Knuckles, Wheelbarrow Racing, Feed Sack Race, Toilet seat horseshoes, Biggest Hair & Biggest Mullet, Beer belly wet t-shirt contest, Seed spitting, Dumpster diving, Hubcap hurling, Chainsaw carving contest, Log rolling and many other ideas.
Business Women’s EXPO – Beth Coberly talked about this year’s upcoming event. They changed the name in 2013 to the Holiday Market Place and EXPO. Cost of tables has been set at $50 per table to set up to display and sell. Many from last year’s event have expressed that they want more than just one table due to the success of the event. They are looking at having at least 100 merchants/businesses/organizations selling items or handing out information. This year they plan to include items for men that can be purchases. This year’s event has been set for Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 10am – 4pm to be held at the Chattahoochee Technical College in Jasper, GA.
Halloween – Trick or Treat on Main Street set for Friday, October, 31, 2014 from 4pm – 6pm. Merchants/Businesses/Organizations wishing to set up tables to hand out candy for the kids along the downtown corridor and are not a Main Street business needs to contact Paul Poore so that they can be placed along the areas of Main Street so they can hand out candy. After the ‘Trick or Treat’ on Main Street, the 1st Annual Jasper Zombie Walk Event is scheduled to follow from 6pm – 9pm. We are looking at having Live Music with at least 2 bands. Vendors to sell food and crafts. Having the Woodbridge Inn host a beer garden. The actual Zombie Stumble will start at 6:30pm beginning at S. Main and Spring Street and look to end the Zombie Stumble at Talmadge Brothers Funeral Home & Casket Company Haunted House. To participate in the Zombie Walk it will take 2 cans of food to enter which will benefit C.A.R.E.S. and they will have a truck there to collect the food. We are looking at showing the movie (the original 1936 Walking Dead movie) to be played on a big screen outdoors on Stegall Rd between N. Main
and Mark Whitfield. Also looking at having either a T.V. or Movie Horror personality do a meet and greet during the event. The Tater Patch Players is also looking at having two separate movies play that night. (Little Shop of Horrors & Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Arts Festival – Look at joining forces with other Arts supporting groups like PACA and Sharptop Arts. Look at having the Arts Festival at a location other than on Main Street as we would like to bring it to other areas of Pickens County / Jasper and have it at a location that would benefit other merchants and have the size and space to accommodate all that would show art work and attend this type of combined event. The JMA will assist in helping set up a Committee that crosses between all groups involved and help promote the event via all social media outlets. This Committee will help work on gathering volunteers to help put this event together and put it on.
Missing Road Signs – Paul Poore will work on getting a response on missing street signs throughout the city of Jasper from City Hall.

Frame the Dollar – The JMA has come up with a way to help recognize and celebrate our JMA Members that are either opening their first store location, starting up a business or organization, new or existing businesses wanting to host a Grand Opening event. The JMA will have a wall hanging picture frame made that will have a plaque on it to commemorate your Businesses first dollar made. For those wishing to be included in this event, lease contact Royce Haley at BMTC or Nancy Watkins at Coco’s Cottage, so the JMA can put together this for JMA members.
Grand Opening – Lil’ Momma’s Donuts is putting on a Grand Opening on Saturday, March 29 from 9am – 12pm. There will be Free Donuts, Bounce House and other activities celebrating the first store front location for Lil’ Momma’s Donuts.
Keep Pickens Beautiful – New Board President Vered Kleinberger looked at going up with the JMA. They are asking to be a part of community wide events as they recycle and look at doing more for the beautification of Jasper and Pickens County. Event Insurance – Beth Coberly of Kevin Panter Insurance will be the underwriter for upcoming events that will be Presented or Hosted by the JMA.
