Correction to last weeks article: this will be the fifteenth year for the Jasper Farmers Market and yet – even now there are people in this region who don’t know it exists (every Saturday morning all summer!) To try to rectify that, April has been designated as “Bring a Friend to the Market” month.
If you bring a qualifying friend to the market on April 5 you could get a free dozen farm fresh eggs. Each Saturday in April will have a give-a–way and in addition the person who brings the most friends during the month of April will win farmers market dollars.
Another good reason to come to the market in April and May is to get a hand knitted shopping bag when you have spent $100 at the market by the last of May. Come by the Master Gardeners Tent for either of these promotions.
But the best reason to come to the market is because it is fun, friendly, healthy and green and because of the variety and quality of the things you can buy there; everything is local, homemade or homegrown. This week there were eggs, chickens (2 live hens), jams, jewelry, knitted accessories, bread and other baked goodies, forsythia bushes and tomato and other garden plants.
Market regular, Jody Waldroup from Granny Matt Farms was there with garden ready vegetable plants and a promise of fresh spring vegetables to come soon.
Craft vendor Laura Pont, prolific jewelry maker, had several things to sell; infinity scarves and mufflers, mouse pads, and many necklaces, bracelets and earrings to chose from.
The “qualifying friend” required in the free egg promotion should be an adult from another household, a potential farmers market customer. Free eggs will be awarded as long as the supply lasts but you can still contend for the “Most Friends Brought” award even if the eggs are all gone.
