I love the idea of having fresh tomatoes, sweet potatoes, squash and boiled peanuts all year long. Today I stopped by Ron’s Produce, located on the corner of West Church Street and Sammy McGee Blvd across from Burger King, to get some fresh veggies and while there, I chatted with Ron Towns and Jimmy Pritchett about their Year Round Produce Stand!
For almost 2 years, Jasper Pickens County residents have been able to get Vine Ripe Tomatoes All Year Long! Yes, you did read that correctly? All year long you can get your vine ripe tomatoes that taste so much better than what you get at the grocery store. Their best season, of course, is the summer and they are busy selling watermelons, cantaloupes and of course, their best seller, tomatoes!
They Are Open Year Round Monday – Saturday but not on Sunday, from noon to dark-thirty weather permitting. If you are unsure if they’ll be open but plan to drop by, you can always call and confirm with Ron if they are indeed open ~ 706-669-0006.
How did this produce stand/partnership come about? These two guys worked together at a car dealership in Blue Ridge. After early retirement, Ron was trying to figure out what he wanted to do and sitting at home all day staring at 4 walls just didn’t get it. He loves to talk with people and when Ron found out that Jimmy had moved to Jasper, Ron knew he found his ‘partner in crime’. A Year Round Produce Stand! Thank You Guys!!!
One of the things Ron and Jimmy had today was Lady Apples, unique small apples that look like a crap apple in size and is grown in Hood River, Oregon. A Diamond Fruit specialty, also called Christmas Apple, this little apple is vibrant green with fiery red blush. Mild-sweet flavor and tiny size. Perfect choice for dessert, pickling and decorations. Available October through January. Check them out when you stop by and let Ron and Jimmy know what you think about this delicious fruit!
Another find was Uncle Red’s BBQ Sauce. This recipe has been in the family well over 100 years started by their grandfather and today is made by Ron’s brother, Uncle Red. This sauce is very spicy and tastes delicious. I can’t wait to put some on some great pulled BBQ – Yum!
Be sure to can grab a bottle or two when you stop by to get your fresh veggies!
I Am So Excited About Tomorrow’s Reservations At The Tate House Christmas Open House!
Thursday, December 19 is the last day of the Christmas Open House and we are so looking forward to touring The Tate House and then enjoying a wonderful Buffet.
Many years ago, I had toured The Tate House at Christmas and it was fabulous. It was great to see how the Tates had lived back in the day. At around that same time, my husband and I had also toured The Biltmore Estate in Ashville and there are so many similarities of the two it’s amazing so we’re really looking forward to seeing The Tate House all decorated for Christmas.
Check out my video of pictures of our tour and Buffet.
Are You Looking For A Family Pet For Christmas? Lizzy is a 10 week old Shepherd mixed with Akita. She had her first round of shots on Thursday (December 12) along with a micro-chip placed in her as well as, preventative treatment for fleas and heart-worms. Lizzy’s next set of shots will be due in 3 weeks. The pup is almost….potty trained.
Lizzy seems to have taken more of the Akita trait personality. The Akita is not recommended for first-time dog owners, for those who want a lapdog, or for those unwilling to take charge. But for owners who can and will invest time and effort in research and proper training, the reward is a fine, intelligent companion with unwavering loyalty. For more information about the Akita please click the link below. http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/akita
We want someone who’s going to take extremely good care of her! Someone who will definitely do the right training and consistency of disciplining this type of dog. She’s so cute and sweet and the right person should be sure and do the proper research on this type of dog before considering bringing her home. She will make a great family pet with the right family who’s willing to do the work.
We believe in ‘Keeping It Local’ and we try to do that most all the time BUT when you get a good deal, well, sometimes you have to make an exception. We did that on our recent HVAC purchase and install. We received several competitive quotes and after thinking long and hard, we went with Reliable Heating & Air for our new HVAC.
Billy Jackson and his son Trey came out on Monday and went right to work. They had to redo the ductwork, as we were getting the house zoned for all three levels. There were some ‘ah oh’s’ in the original ductwork from 1987 so Billy and Trey had their work cut out for them just getting the ductwork ready.
After 3 days of all day work, we got our new HVAC system up and going. When Billy and Trey left, you could not tell that any work had gone on down in our basement, except for our new system…the basement area where they installed the new system was as clean as a pin. They even wore shoe covers all the time they were in the house and laid drop cloths throughout the house where they had to walk and in the work area.
One of the things we can say about Billy and Trey, which reflects on their respect for their customers and their customer’s home and Reliable Heating & Air’s definite choice of employees, is that they truly cared about their work and truly wanted to make sure that they did the job to the very best of their ability, and they did!
We could not have asked for a better job than what these guys did for us. Quality Work At It’s Finest! And, they are local residents of Pickens County, so in a way, we did keep it local, and we hope that we see these two around town. We enjoyed dealing with them which made purchasing our new HVAC a wonderful experience.
So if you’re looking to upgrade your HVAC system or if you have HVAC problems and need them fixed, call Reliable Heating & Air and ask for Billy Jackson, he’ll treat you right and you’ll have the Best Experience for sure!
Be sure to tell them Beth from Jasper Pickens County GA.com recommended them!
