The 3rd Annual Public Safety Day was Saturday, November 14, 2009 and was held by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. The event was from 10am to 2pm and a big success! You could not have asked for better weather.
With over 30 vendors included, they also had the moon-walk for the children, many types of demonstrations, safety material for hand out, games, prizes, cakewalk, food and much more.
Even Blecky and his handler showed up but I only saw him through the window of the patrol vehicle; he wasn’t ready for the crowd yet!
The Piedmont Mountainside Hospital and the American Red Cross were there to support the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. The public had the opportunity to watch a simulator rollover on a pick up truck, and learn what happens and how to prevent injury. Children and teens were able to look into police vehicles, fire trucks, helicopters to see these vehicles up close and learn a little about them.
There were raffles held to win bikes, trikes and other items.
Other Safety Day participants were:
Life Force & Rescue 1 helicopters, a Breast Cancer Table, North Georgia Fire & Safety Equipment, Talking Rock Fire Department, Georgia State Patrol, Cherokee Hazmat, Jump Start and many more.
Thank You Donnie Craig and the Pickens County Sheriff’s Department and all who participated in this event. It was a wonderful show of support to help the people of Pickens County learn a little more about who is helping to keep them safe and what they can and need to do to stay safe!
