Qualifying for candidates in the July 31st primaries ended Friday at noon with a few candidates qualifying that day who had not previously made public campaign announcements in the Progress.
Among the late entries, Nelson Mayor David Leister was the only Republican to enter the race for tax commissioner. Election office staff said incumbent Sharon Troglin has always run as an independent and has indicated she plans to do so again.
Candidates who qualified locally for countywide races were:
Democrat Sally Sue Bradley qualified as the only democrat hopeful in any race. She will seek the District 1 Commission seat.
Commission Chairman – Robert Jones, Wesley Weaver
District 1 Commissioner – Jerry Barnes, Marty Callahan, Bart Connelly, Stanley Morris, Stephen Giambra
District 2 Commissioner – Becky Denney, Jerry Patterson
Sheriff – Donnie Craig
Coroner – Kevin Roper
Probate Judge – David Lindsey, Nancy Maddox
Chief Magistrate – LaSandra Cooley, Dale Quinton, Allen Wigington
Tax Commissioner – David Leister
Clerk of Superior Court – Gail Brown, Kathy Bruce, Rena Kirk
School Post 1 – Michael Cowart, Mickey Scott Carver
School Post 4 – Ervin Easterwood, Peggy Andrews
