Mountain Education Center opens new campus
in Pickens County
Did you know that there is a new campus in town? and what it entails?
Mountain Education Center High School’s new Pickens County campus was open for session the night of Tuesday, August 3rd. They are located in a building that used to be part of Jasper Elementary School at 121 D.B. Carroll Street across from the new Board of Education building. Registration had begun the previous night.
Site administrator Cheryl Sewell was on hand to give me information about Mountain Education Center High School and its mission. The teachers and staff are all from local school systems and are ready to help in any way they can to make sure students reach their goals.
MECHS is open for classes from 4:00pm to 9:30pm Monday through Thursday. They are a self-paced night high school serving those who want to earn their diploma, but don’t have the ability to attend traditional classes. MECHS is also the place to go if your student needs to make-up any course. Many of the classes offered at a traditional high school can be found there.
